15 Evergreen Writing Tips

Writing as you talk may not always be the greatest idea – even when blogging.
Putting something down in writing means that it’s as good as “black on white” - even if it finds itself on a computer screen - and it can be annoying to read if poorly written.
- Think before you write.
- Be sure your thoughts are worth sharing!
- Use spelling check or keep a dictionary handy – yes, spell correctly!

- Keep your sentences short rather than clumsily long.
- Do not repeat yourself.
- Keep the attention of your readers: be sure that what you are saying, is interesting.
- Do not use too much slang, even when writing informally.
- Don’t get personal – well, not too personal. Don’t cross the “line” of ethics.
- Be sure that what you write, is something you would enjoy reading if someone else wrote it…
- Avoid being offensive and do not use coarse words.
- Call a spade a spade – don’t call it a “bloody shovel”.
- Get your facts straight & correct.
- Be consistent & correct in name spelling!
- Beware of plagiarism!
- Quote accurately and fully (acknowledge your sources).
